Save Our Sounds - Keralan fishermen

My other sound recording has been posted to the BBC World Service Save Our Sounds website. Find the recording on the map by looking at Kerala (South-Western tip of India) and the town of Trivandrum.

After a slighty dodgy start to the recording, you hear the sound of the waves lapping on the shore as the fishermen pull their nets up onto the beach. They go out on boats at night to cast the nets, and in the morning they pull the catch up to the beach and divide it, accompanied by lots of arguing. As they bring the net in, they chant prayers for the sea to provide for their families.

Bellbirds on the BBC

I recorded these bellbirds singing in New Zealand in 2005, and the recording has now been added to the BBC World Service Save Our Sounds website, an archive of sounds from around the world. On the map, find Akaroa just outside Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand, and there they are.

Inside the Dog Chapel

“In 1997, after a near death experience with acute respiratory distress syndrome, [Stephen] Huneck started work building a chapel dedicated to dogs. The Dog Chapel, which took three years to complete, is situated next to his studio in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. In addition to standard human sized doors, the chapel also has a dog door, carved wooden dogs lining the pews and dog themed stained glass windows. The inner walls are covered with remembrance notes and pictures of visitors deceased canine pets.”Stephen Huneck, Wikipedia

Marcus Brigstocke On The Abrahamic Religions by Marcus Brigstocke
(download)

Been looking through some old MP3s. You may have heard this already - Marcus Brigstocke on the Now Show in 2007 on the Abrahamic religions, amongst other things. Tuh... two years on and so many new things to rant about.

Doubtful moisture and washing machines

Genuine FAQ answers on Islam provided by the Supreme Leader of Iran, Sayyid Ali Khamenei. There are similar FAQs for most major religions. Atheists don't have FAQs. They sneer with a smug sense of superiority and annoy everyone else.

Being religious is hard work.

Blankety Blank

For some reason, every time I see footage of parliament or one of the fleeing cabinet ministers, I hear the Blankety Blank theme tune. Just seems to work. Maybe it's because the idea of a resigning MP getting a Blankety Blank cheque book and pen tickles me, but as @ithorpe points out, it looks like they've already been using them.

More Blankety Blank here:

In Sweden, atheist children will kill you for candy.

Apparently. The pic above is doctored, the original (not a lot less absurd) is here.
